Schweitzer Ski and New Year’s Party We're BAAAAAACK after three years December 31 – January 3, 2010 Trip Leader - Jay Reinhardt (509-627-3690) Member Price: $356 Non-member Price: $381 (Includes a $25 membership fee.) It's been a while since the Tri-Cities’ Desert Ski Club went to Schweitzer, one of the best ski hills in the Pacific Northwest with 2,900 acres of long groomers, superb tree skiing, and some serious steeps. And no lift lines with 3 detachable chairs -- one of which seats six at a time and has a themed entrance like a Disney ride. Schweitzer's gone up-scale in the last few years, but we've managed to keep the price down on this trip.Schweitzer has a fantastic snow record for New Year, as it's usually open by early December. So don't miss this opportunity to pound the slopes and powder over the New Year holiday. This one is too good to miss, so don't wait around and lock in your New Year right now.LogisticsWe leave by bus from Richland Thursday afternoon, New Years Eve, arriving at the Sandpoint Days Inn in plenty of time to unpack and then hit the bars for the countdown to New Years. If you haven't been to Sandpoint for a while, the last 3 years have seen massive changes. There's top quality restaurants of different types, great ski bum bars, a wonderful wine bar and a couple of microbreweries. It's a real happening town, so this should be a great weekend for apres ski. Party hats provided. Our ski bus will act as a shuttle to transport people from our lodging to the heart of Sandpoint's bar district, so party-ers can come and go as they like before calling it quits for the evening. The next morning we get up bright and early (or not, depending on how much you partied the night before) and have a 15 minute bus ride before hitting the ski slopes of Schweitzer Resort. If you don't make the early bus we'll have a later bus to get you there. We ski Schweitzer three full days, and at the end of the third day we climb on the bus for the ride back to the Tri-Cities. Schweitzer has great terrain for all skiers, and after 3 days of hard skiing you can guarantee to have your ski legs back for the season. When pausing for breath after a great run from the top, you can look out over spectacular views of Lake Pend Oreille. If you are not convinced, check out the website, http://www.schweitzer.comThe trips includes 3 days skiing, 3 nights at the Days Inn in Sandpoint, bus to/from Sandpoint, to/from the ski hill each day, and a shuttle to town in the evenings. All this for an incredible price of $356 per person. (Non-members add $25 for club membership). What a great way to start the new year!! Contact the trip leader, Jay Reinhardt, or come along to the Desert Ski Club meetings on the 1st Thursday in November or December to sign up. Meetings are at 7PM at the Shilo Inn in Richland.
